Making a choice is always very difficult especially when you have to choose a name for the newborn ----a name that is special and unique. To be unique can often be misconstrued for idiosyncratic behavior. This then makes us redouble our efforts to strike a balance between uniqueness and eccentricity. You do not want a common name, you want to make the child feel extra special but at the same time you do not want the child to encounter problems because of the name that you have conferred on him. That is why selecting a unique name is difficult.

Choosing a unique name for the baby is a very serious task because so much depends on it and choosing from a hundred or thousand names can be mind-boggling. You want to be highly individualistic and non-conformistic ----absolutely exceptional while doing so. You want to create a name that sets it apart from other names. There are many things that can be unique about the name. The name itself may be something that you have never heard before or the spelling may be different. The bottom line is that it is not similar to anything that we have heard of or a novel variation to what we have heard. Originality and creativity are the denominators of a unique name. Common names of places, flowers and colors are converted into unique names, or an unusual punctuation makes it vastly different.

Although people are tolerant there are certain pockets of society, which just wait for an opportunity for a laugh. By giving the baby a unique name, you could just trigger off a minor landslide. The name may be fine when the child is young but as it grows older, they may land in a situation where they constantly have to repeat or spell their names if it is different from the normal way it is said or spelt. This could be traumatic for the child and could lead to it being teased, as it grows older. So while being unique is all very fine, what should be remembered is that the name should not be suggestive of anything that is silly or undesirable.
