Gone are the days of figuring out the right pattern, then buying material, searching for that right tailor and getting your dress in a week’s time. Now it is walk into a showroom of your choice, do a trial, a few tucks and the outfit is ready to go. But of course there are those who do it the traditional way, for the right pattern and fit. Weight, height, personality and age are some of the important factors that designers take into account when they design clothes for people. In fact Indian designers are known for the effort they take to make the right dress for a person. While vital statistics, as in measurements is an essential when stitching clothes; the designer also takes into account the wearer’s age. Formal teen dresses differs from the garments worn by women of other age groups. Since the teenage years are synonymous with freedom, youth, achievement, energy, activity, etc., even the clothes designed for this age group symbolize these characteristics. No doubt the common formal color is black, but in the case of teenagers the preference is something vibrant. The fact remains that teenagers dress up more so to create an impact on others rather than being comfortable in what they wear. It is all about being up-to-date with latest trends. Formal dresses for teens are usually patterns with hemlines far above their knees, halter-tops and dresses. They also prefer fabric with more shimmer. A teenager enjoys it most when she notices other’s glaring at her enviously as she walks down the hallway to meet her friends. When out shopping for teen formal dresses, girls also look out for accessories to match the dress. This could include jewelry, a purse and footwear. Some designers do make bags and footwear of the same material of the dress.
