Something that is everlasting never goes out of vogue. And
vintage fabric just falls in that category. Even though there
are the latest in silks and satins, tweeds and suiting’s
designers still fall back to vintage fabric. The difference is
instant when you see the dress. It is classy and brings about an
aura, no other can compete. In fact vintage patterns too are
copied on other fabrics, so you get the vintage look in the
material of your choice. Upholstery is another place where
vintage fabric is used.
Complement it with wooden furniture and you get the feeling
of a palace or royalty. Gold paisley designs that flow into dark
colors leave you feeling rich just by looking at it. Your home
looks distinguished and your furniture vintage.
Hang them as drapes and your windows will come to life. Use it
in the kitchen as table cloths, towels or aprons completing the
vintage look of your home. But you don’t have to tie yourself
down with the same fabric in the whole house. You can dabble
with the various colours that are available, styles and designs.
So the boring one color is snapped out. In fact you can also try
your hand at fusion. |
A modern look in the hall and a vintage in the kitchen or vice versa.
You can opt to have a theme in each room of your house, favoring one
with the vintage look. Dress your bed with vintage quilts that are
thick, warm and charming.
The term vintage means something old, archaic, historic, traditional,
classic, antiquated, etc. Basically anything that belongs to an era gone
by has more value than contemporary objects. This is also the case of
vintage fabric. In the case of this category of fabric it was the pure
cloth, unlike the large variety of synthetic ones available today.
Vintage fabrics are usually used to make costumes of times gone by. This
is ideal for fancy dress parties where the theme maybe something to do
with the historic times. Even those attending proms purchase clothes
made of vintage fabric so that it looks authentic.
Though it is not too common to find this sort of fabric, you could look
around at the larger fabric stores or with textile companies. Fabric
termed as vintage in India are those that were used by the royal
families of time gone by. The fabric had rich embroidery or beadwork
done on it. Commonly pure cotton, silk and raw silk are amongst the
older material in India, which are far more expensive then the newer
lot.
A lot of reputed fashion designers prefer to work with vintage fabric,
since it adds beauty to the clothes they design. Even interior designers
who decorate homes with antique furniture prefer this material for the
upholstery. Even though it may connote something old, in other terms
antique, it does have a universal contemporary feel amongst those who
can afford it.
