Formal dresses make women look gorgeous. Women who have the hour glass body shape are lucky because they can choose almost any style of dress and look good. The best features of the hour-glass figure are the waist and the curves. Choose a dress that accentuates your curves! If you have a body type that does not have too many curves then you can wear an ‘A-line’ dress. This dress gives the appearance of having curves. Don't wear a dress that clings to your body. Alternatively you can also choose a dress that has some detailing like embroidery on the neck. Dresses for the top-heavy women are halter-neck formal dress. These dresses give appearance of being in proportion with the lower half of your body. You can also try a dress that has a slit as it can highlight your top and bottom halves. Whether one chooses a long formal dress or a short one, formal dresses make for an amazing style statement if worn it well.

Below mentioned are the different styles of formal dresses that you can choose from:

Ballgown – This is a perfect formal dress for those very formal events. It is a full-skirted dress that depicts grandeur and extravaganza.

Halter Dress – A halter dress is a perfect evening wear dress. It highlights your back. Apart from this, you can choose the length of your dress according to the occasion. I would always advise a full length halter dress which makes women look tall and slender. Also, halter dresses highlight the eyes, hair and earrings.

Strapless Dress – strapless formal dresses are a best bet especially for women who are heavy on hips. This is because a strapless dress accentuates the collar bone and neck while covers your hips and tummy as it is free flowing towards the bottom.

Empire Waist Dress – This dress is recommended for short women as this elongates the body. It brings focus to the bust and hides problem areas of the lower part of the body.

It is important to wear formal dresses according to the body type that you have. For women who have an apple shaped body, try and choose dresses that are fit from the bust and free flowing on the lower part of the body. You can also wear something that is colorful which highlights the color rather than the pattern or the cuts. For women with a pear shaped body type, it is important to balance the body by highlighting the torso. These women should choose the empire waist dress that fits perfectly with the natural waistline. Alternatively, you can also choose a straight cut formal dress.
