MTNL (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited) was established in 1986. It started its operations by providing landline telephony. MTNL launched GSM Cellular Mobile Service in the two metro cities of Delhi and Mumbai under the brand name ‘Dolphin’. The operation was launched in 2001. MTNL has been granted license to operate cellular services in the National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi (including its four satellite towns of Ghaziabad, NOIDA, Faridabad & Gurgaon) and Mumbai (including Navi Mumbai & Kalyan). One of the prominent public sector undertakings, MTNL has helped in spreading usage of mobiles through good quality service and lower call rates.

With almost one million subscribers, MTNL’s prepaid service is called “TRUMP’. MTNL offers GSM Cellular Mobile service under the brand name Dolphin and WLL Mobile services under the brand name Garuda. Trump definitely offers better call rates compared to other service providers with no activation fees and security deposits. Various recharge vouchers with high talk value are provided by the company. It also offers low local and STD call rates with extended validity period. Recently MTNL has also introduced revised Garuda mobile incoming plan and Chhota recharge card. All the three Garuda connection types; Garuda Mobile, Garuda Fixed Wireless (FWP/FWT) and Garuda RUIM (also known as SIM) have several attractive postpaid plans. This CDMA service comes bundled with three handset options of Curitel CX 858(with Camera and internet), Hisense C677 (with internet) and Huawei C300 (without internet).

MTNL provides various value added services like voice mail service (VMS), short message service (SMS), cell broadcast service, call hold, multi-party conference, closed user group, call divert and call waiting, MMS, GPRS, WAP etc. Other value attractive features include; play tunes, mobile photo sharing services, express alerts, missed call alert etc.

One can pay MTNL’s mobile bills at several banks and post offices in both metros. It has collaborated with banks like ICICI, Axis Bank, Deutsche bank, Union bank etc for facilitating bill payment.
