Baby Bedrooms

Planning a baby bedroom can be exciting but remember just don't get carried away in your exuberance. Be creative and innovative as you can, but remember it is the baby’s room.
Always choose soft and harmonious colors, which are restful and easy on the eye. This will ensure that you do not have to redecorate somewhere in the near future once baby grows up. Plaid fabrics in pastel shades will go well with rugs and carpets on the floor and also be in harmony with the green and blue or pink and yellow of the walls.

Cribs or Moses baskets are a must. If you decide to use cribs, the advantage is that its rocking action will help the baby sleep. These are usually made of wood. Moses baskets are lightweight, easy to carry from one room to another and are made from wicker. They are durable and usually are sold along with a foam mattress and bedding. No pillows for baby.

A firm and flat surface is what is required. Carrycots are also available but maybe not as popular as Moses baskets. Cot bumpers are used inside the cot bars to prevent the baby from hurting itself. Beware; these could make the baby hot. If the baby is sleeping in a big cot, a cot separator can be used. Duvet Grippers clamp onto the blanket’s side and help to keep it in place.

Sheets can be of cotton, flannelette or stretch cotton terry. You definitely need sheet protectors made from vinyl or plastic. If the baby is not sleeping in your room, it is wise to have a monitor, which transmits sound of the baby’s crying to a distance between 50-200 meters. Believe it or not video cameras with small monitors are also installed to see the baby !  As if that were not enough technology has provided mobiles, which play tunes for the baby and keep it entranced. The mobile toys that come along with the mobile actually rotate and make him forget to cry.

Changing mats can be used on the floor or on what are known as changing tables. The advantage with a table is that the shelves and drawers below can be used for the thousand and one items that babies seem to need - nappies, cotton wool etc etc. Night -lights could be a good thing to have for at least a while.

If you believe in Feng Shui, then the baby’s bedroom must be away from noise of any kind. The cot must be against a solid wall. Soft movement and soft music is supposed to be good for growth. No pointed end must point at the body or the head of the baby. Surround the baby with nature designs and balance the lighting in the room.

It does entail a lot of work, but in the long run it is worth it. So have fun and do up the bedroom.
