Selecting toddler beds for your little ones ~ By Mini Swami

One should never underestimate toddlers, especially their likes and dislikes. Once they are about 2 years old, they have a mind of their own and believe me can be pretty stubborn at times. Transition is never easy even for adults, so moving from a crib to a toddler bed can be pretty rough going for the babies who are now old enough to be labeled as toddlers. Suddenly their cozy world seems to be torn apart and they do seem lost in a toddler bed. At such times it is useful to entice them into sleeping in the beds and one way to do that is to make them feel secure and also use bedding, which attracts them. Comforters, pillows, mattresses and sheets do come in fantastic shades and colors.

Toddler beds with guardrails is a good choice for those toddlers who can never stay still even while they sleep. Roomy and strong, these toddler beds have slatted wood rails half way down the bed, enough to make junior feel safe and secure. The beds are made to fit any standard size mattress. Then comes the most interesting part. You can do a great job with the sheets, pillows, and the comforters. Toddler bedding is as eclectic as furniture. There are themes that are so attractive that no toddler can fail to be enamored.

 Trucks, cars, rockets and airplanes have never failed to attract the young minds. Bedding with such themes could be a real incentive for them to transfer from a crib to a bed very easily. Toddlers who love dogs and cats and enjoy animal cartoon clips may settle for bedding that depicts the animal kingdom. Baby lions and elephants, puppies and kittens, or a miniature zoo can lull the child to sleep.

For the dreamers who love to gaze at stars and the moon, or coo at the sight of flowers and fruits, you can really have a spread. Create a universe in the bed, or bring nature to life with lush green forests and wild flowers. Nothing can be more inviting. For the quieter toddler you can always have the daisy, gossamer or the flower field set to keep in tune with his mood. Don’t overlook the toddler who loves fairy tales. Storybook themes are an all time favorite for sheets and mattresses. Bring Red-riding Hood, Cinderella or Snow white alive on the bed and maybe you can avoid reading a story when you are really exhausted.

Royalty has never had it this good. A royal princess toddler bedding, gingham patchwork or a girl’s frilly needs can be satisfied. They really feel regal and will not allow even you to sit on their beds. The silver ballerina bedding can make a toddler feel very very special and who knows it may even trigger off latent skills.  Choosing lovely pink or blue shades with a little bit of silver showing can be the dreamiest of bedding sets ever created.

Come night, it is time to put away those trains and balls and bats which entertained the toddler during the day, but the toddlers in spite of feeling sleepy can be pretty reluctant to do so. Sports bedding and choo choo train sets can be the answer to your prayers. If you want your child to be an underwater explorer, or enlist in the army or be a baseball player, the time is just right. Imbibe in him those skills by choosing sheets and pillows that embrace the aquatic world, or the army. It just cannot be too early. Plaids and denims are always the steadiest and one can fall back on them when in a quandary.

If the toddler is one of those who reads books upside down, maybe a few educative sheets could inspire. The alphabet or the numbers can be used as starters. Last but not least, the ubiquitous teddy bear bedding which all toddlers love is the most entrancing of toddler bedding. Whatever you do, change the bedding combinations often and create worlds in the bed. Your toddler will grow up to be a very versatile child.
