Magnetic bearings

The magnetic bearings were primarily invented to perform certain mechanical roles. Basically they have been designed in a way that they lend support to load by employing magnetic levitation. In fact, in earlier stages of its development, these bearings found very limited use, however with research and development their purposes have been increasing.

Magnetic bearings are generally used by the local electric utility department, as they are devises that help measure precisely the power consumption by consumers. They are also used in what are known as high-precision instruments and equipment. These bearings are also utilized to lend support to the equipment that is placed in a vacuum. The railways systems of almost every nation have used magnetic bearings to reduce the noise pollution

The magnetic bearings are used because of certain advantages attached to their functioning. First and foremost they produce extremely low, and yet predictable friction, with the ability to work without the need to be lubricated, making them environment friendly. Apart from this they do not need excessive mechanical maintenance. However, one of the discouraging factors in employing them is the cost factor. ~ Authored R Karwa.
