brass chandelier

Brass has been a widely used metal since the prehistoric times. Age-wise it is an older metal than zinc. According to the King James version of the Bible, which was written around 400 to 500 BC, the pots and shovels were made of brass. Apart from this, brass has been used by various ancient civilizations as fixtures and fittings, beds and other artifacts.

Among other archaic findings, archaeologists have found brass chandeliers, which were used as hanging candle stands or for kerosene lights. Brass chandelier are still seen in the palaces of India. In times gone by, lanterns made of brass were hung inside every home, prior to the discovery of electricity. In fact these lanterns also lit up the streets.

Today, brass chandelier light up most modern homes. While the larger ones are hung in hotels, offices, restaurants and bungalows, the smaller and compact ones are hung in apartments. People prefer these chandeliers because of the lifespan of this metal. So to speak because of its sturdiness and strength, it is exposed to minimum wear and tear. Even maintaining it is simple. It creates its own anti-corrosive film, which makes it a popular metal even in the coastal regions.

The chandeliers made of brass are usually available in two types of polish finishes. These are the highly polished, which produce a sheen; and the antiqued polished, which gives the metal a more older look. However, you could also purchase genuine antique chandeliers made of brass from people who deal in artifacts of times gone buy. But, these will always cost more than buying a newer one with an antique finish.
