Forestry suppliers are typically located near forested areas of the region
from where they operate. These suppliers can operate from their own private
land or can take land on lease from the government. The land holdings can be
huge, running into a few million hectares. Depending on the climactic
conditions, the products will vary according to the trees and plants
harvested for the purpose. In the tropical regions, hardwood trees like teak
are grown, in the temperate areas spruce and birch are grown.
The main products traded by Indian Forestry suppliers include pulp,
newsprint, tissue, corrugated medium etc. The suppliers have their own
extensive transportation and their saw mills to produce lumber and timber.
The forestry suppliers have to be especially careful that the forests are
used in used in a sustainable way and the trees cut down are replanted. This
way a fixed harvesting cycle is followed and the forest wealth is also
preserved. India, like most other countries, has stringent laws dealing with
Forestry products and supplies.
