There are people who specialize in medical equipment. It
is not necessary for them to hail from the medical background, but
ideally they should be from the engineering stream. This is because any
kind of machine requires someone who knows its mechanism. By the end of
the day the doctor is not concerned with how the machine works, it is
his technicians who operate the systems or equipment. The medical equipment supplier may deal in selected equipment or in everything required by the medical fraternity. The supplier provides products to hospitals, nursing homes and to local practitioners, as per the order. Not just anyone can enter the field of medical supplies. One requires a license and has to be an authorized dealer for whichever company he represents. There are some unauthorized medical equipment suppliers who are not aware of the basics of the equipment and thus causing unnecessary problems. Such small time dealers are found in India too. They purchase second hand products, polish it and service it in a way that one would think is brand new and there three days later, you need to throw out the equipment! Usually the medical supplier would tie up with a couple of hospitals and would constantly take care of their needs. This would include timely check on requirements and servicing existing products.
