stainless steel cabinets

Stainless steel has an extended lifespan in compairson to the other metals and is one of the reasons why it is used as furniture in households and offices around the globe. Since it is resistant to corrosion and staining and calls for low maintenance and is relatively inexpense it makes for cabinets, cupboards, sinks, home appliances, etc. In fact stainless steel with a higher content of chromium produces a lustrous mirror like surface.

However, most stainless steel cabinets are purchased in various colours, which go with the décor of the room where they have to be placed. The cabinets are available in various sizes and are used for a variety of purposes. Basically, there are over 150 grades of stainless steel, depending on the alloy content. The tougher grades are molded into cabinets that do not rust.

Stainless steel cabinets are used in many Indian homes and offices, primarily because they are cost-effective. Another aspect is that this furniture is movable. People who are regularly transferred from one city to another because of the job, find it a better option as is highly corrosion and erosion resistant and can withstand any kind of climatic changes.
Sometimes, however, people have complained of stainless steel rusting. But this is not so, in the sense that probably some iron particles that have contaminated the surface of the stainless steel cabinets, which are rusting. You could use a solution of 10% nitric acid and 2% hydrofluoric acid at room temperature to remove these stains.

Most cabinets have a polished finish with short directional polishing lines that may get scratched over a period of time. To restore the original polished finish to its original appearance usually requires a professional who specializes in fabricating or polishing stainless steel. The professional works on a new finish that would hide away the scratches. This could be swirl or embossed finish. If in case hiring a professional for the job is an expensive proposition, then you could refinish the cabinet using a non-metallic abrasive pad, rubbing the surface using uniform strokes in the same direction as the current polishing lines. This would fade away the lighter scratches. ~ author Karishma Bajaj
