They got a-lined, then flared. Then shorter. In the later decades it climbed up the knee. The pleated skirt was introduced and that was a hit. Then came Herkie’s invention of the pom pon cheerleading uniforms. Those lush bouncy pom pons. It was a feather in the hat. Even Herkie’s signature jump - one arm up in the air, the other akimbo with one leg at 90o and the other bend backwards. All this with the uniform elevated the cheerleader’s grace. The cotton skirts were long gone along with the sweaters. Pleated entered the scenario. Short stripes across the dress brought in a new perspective. This 2-piece uniform got better over a period of time and has flaunted every dimension of a good outfit.
The cheerleader girl of today against all odds is as outrageous as her cheerleading uniform. She flips, sets pyramids, take summersaults. She does it all to put her team in full gear. Her uniform just compliments her style. But comfort is an
important aspect for the cheerleader’s uniforms. After all it has to adhere
to her conjuring stunts. Thus however smart the uniform gets, it has to
underline the principle of comfort. Those elaborate stunts and the pom pons
accentuate the cheerleader’s uniform. And that enthusiastic girl with her
captivating cheers completes the picture.
