There are certain fabrics that are manufactured to serve only a certain
purpose, which is to decorate a place or a costume. These maybe used as
bedsheets, pillow covers, curtains, or the glittering material used to
enhance costumes for films and stage shows. This range of fabric is
initially sold in the wholesale market from where retailers make
purchases and give finishing touches to be sold as per requirement. This
implies stitching the seams of the bedcover, or creating pillow covers,
etc. Many interior designers and decorators usually purchase the decorator fabric from the wholesalers so that it works out cheaper and they earn a substantial profit. This in fact is a trade secret amongst designers and decorators, as they constantly need good fabric to complete their decorating assignments. Apart from the beddings and other upholstery, the lace and crochet covers also belong to the category of decorator fabric. In India, there are huge and flourishing wholesale textile markets where one can pick and choose the fabrics they require and yet avail of good discount schemes. This is more so for those in the decorating business. Even costume designers opt for decorative fabric that have a shine and cannot be worn on a normal basis. For instance, dancers performing on stage require their costumes to e made of flimsy material that adds sparkle to their performance. Fashionable hats are also made of such material. Some times people purchase fabric to do some patchwork on their clothes adding beauty to their clothes. ~ author Karishma Bajaj.
