Medical uniforms have
always meant fitted white dresses and white nurse caps. More recently,
however, nurses and doctors tend to wear scrubs. Scrubs constitute of a pair
of cotton or cotton/polyester pants with a drawstring, accompanied by a
short sleeved, v-neck top of the same material. Occasionally medical
uniforms still include the white coat indicating one is a doctor or nurse
practitioner as hospitals make specific recommendations for medical
uniforms. The doctor has an air of certainty in him. And that white lab-coat accentuates it. In the operation theatre he and his staff are uniformed from head to toe. A shower cap covers the head in totality, hands in gloves and armed with equipment they get down to work. Isn’t it breathtaking looking at the medical staff in their uniforms doing their good deeds? These doctors stand tall in their normal clothes jacketed with pristine white lab-coats with two low pockets. Doctors all over the world predominantly wear this uniform. Other medical uniforms include a self-green top and pant, widely used in America. There are other pastel shades taken up by medical institutions in different parts of the world. Wonder why light, pastel shades are preferred by medical institutions ? Maybe because they represent cleanliness and as the doctor is the epitome of hygiene, he is juxtaposed to the colour white. ~ Fashion editor M. Coutinho. copyright indianchild.com
