nursing uniforms, nurse clothing

Fully dressed, with stockings and shoes, the nurse has little repose to comfortable uniforms. O fcourse the badge on the shoulder speaks of her designation. However, this norm is changing. In most of the foreign countries, drawstring pants and short tops have ushered in. Keeping in mind, their strenuous duties and that they are on their toes, it is important to be comfortable in what you wear. These uniforms are referred to as scrubs. And to add to their advantage, you get them in colours that you desire. Green was first the colour given to the scrubs, but as the manufacturing demands increased, so did the variety. Now little cartoon caricatures and doodle prints are preferred for nurses working in the kids and maternity wing. Similarly different colours can mark different departments, so that at one glance you can tell who is from which department.

If you are deciding on the medical uniforms, then weigh your options. White is not only conventional, but gets the brunt of being soiled very easily. That increases the number of uniforms per person. On the other hand if you opt for creams, blues and pinks, it will not only save you the number of uniforms per person, but also get a good crisper look. White uniforms pale out to yellow and look dull and old very soon, as against other colours.
Hence choose colours that will look fresh even after a many washes and will not highlight any stain. Be sure to check on the washing instructions too as you would want to use rough and tough material other that only dry clean as this will not be feasible.

Also check the fabric before buying, buy the best fit size and check if the fabric does not shrink after the first wash. Usually the scrubs do not require ironing if they are hung up straight out of the dryer. After selecting ‘your kind of’ scrub, if one is in the nursing department, shoes are the next priority. Since a nurse is always on his/her feet, comfortable shoes reduce stress. Pretty dainty nurses, how angelic they look in their pristine white uniforms. They hover around you during medicine times and make sure you are comfortable.

Nurses always looked kind. Even in the ancient days. However then they had no particular uniform. They wore their daily garb and walked off to check their patients seizing the medical vanity case. But with time the uniform was introduced. So that nurses would get the acknowledgement of being the right hand of the doctors and of course for identification to patients. White was the colour that favoured nurses dresses. After all what other colour does hygiene represent? Full dresses with a belt, full stockings, a cap and simple shoes completed a nurse’s uniform.

The only colour other than white on her was that of the belt. The colour of the belt represented the rank or order of the nurse. With the matron at the highest rank. However this uniform pattern is not mandatory. Different hospitals follow their own set of rules and regulations. The footwear of the nurse’s are recommended to be simple and sober. High heels are not advisable as they always have to be on their toes. The nurse’s hairstyle too is a part of her uniform. There has to be not a strand of hair looming outside. So in a well-combed bun all of them go and then the nurse’s cap crowns it. The style of this cap has many variations.

A strict uniform nurse clothing supervision is always undertaken. After all nurses represent hygiene in its true sense. ~ Fashion editor M. Coutinho. Nurse uniforms & clothing.
