school uniforms

Schools and uniforms are inter-related. One defines the other so well that, looking at a uniform one can tell from which school he or she belongs. In fact with a number of schools popping up in every corner, uniform colours and styles have got even more diverse.
In the early days school uniforms were quite conservative. Not that it is very relaxed now, but it is quite modern. Chequered prints are in. Box pleats and pleated skirts with coloured ties. Sometimes the colour of the tie depends on the house that you belong to. Exercise days are stipulated with a slight ease in uniforms. But shoe styles mostly have remained the same. Closed and well polished. Sock and shoes every day, only relaxed in the rainy season.

As disparate colours of the same shade are worn by children, schools have been dispensing the complete uniform set from the premises, at a cost. This way there is uniformity in the colour and all children are dressed in the pristine colour decided.
In the wake of increasing schools where each student will have a minimum of two sets of uniforms, manufactures and wholesalers are growing in abundance. However it is important to teach our children to take care of their everyday clothes. If they keep dropping food and beverages all the time, parents will go insane to shop continuously for them. Hence parents and schools have to teach students to pride their uniforms and respect them.

This way, they will automatically take care of their prized possessions and leave less out of their mouth. They will learn to tie the knot at the tie and at the belt. Wear crisp uniforms and carry them with pride. However until they come of age you cannot do anything of those kids who roll in mud and love to have a mucky football session. Uniforms are an integral part of schooling. They underline a sense of discipline in each and every student. Moreover a uniform is the face of a school. Student’s behaviour, their overall attitude, their outward appearance and their dealings with individuals apart from school give the uniform a particular character.

School uniforms put parents in an easy chair. Else they would be nearing a breakdown satisfying the whims and fancies of their children. Colourful school clothes bring disparity among children of different classes. The classes would separate themselves from the masses on basis of their dressing. Also gangs of students would differentiate themselves with particular colours of clothing. They would demarcate their groups, invite rivalry and manifest in evil doings. Weapons could be easily hidden in loose clothing. And once the wrong doing bug bites you. It pulls you deeper in the black hole.

So the most easy and efficient way to put a stop or avoid any misfortune is the uniform. A set pattern and decent colour does it all. With uniforms, at least fashion and clothes are off the minds of students while in school.

But if school uniforms did not exist then parents would be relieved of laundering uniforms every alternate day. They could see their little ones in flowery pink and polka dots. Children would understand fashion and build their careers in the industry from a very young age. But that’s thinking a bit too far.   ~ Fashion editor M.
