prayer shawls
Shawls are used to keep the body warm against the biting cold. They are
also used as a fashion statement. And then there are types of shawls
used only for prayers. You can see it in the Jewish religion. They have shawls over their shoulder when they are reciting prayers. Elderly women in the Sikh community of India prefer to wear shawls at all times, especially while praying. Even Muslim men are seen carrying prayer shawls on their shoulders. Prayer shawls are normally white in colour. Their pristine whiteness is important, as it is holy. The Jews have fine black stripes on their white shawls. Hence it depends from religion to religion and culture to culture. Simple cotton to handmade these kind of shawls differ in their composition. Sometimes they are even crocheted. Tassels are very common in these types of shawls. They hang at the edge and bring in some kind of beauty to the simple and sober shawl. ~ Category authored Karishma Bajaj.
