There are art collectors, coin collectors, stamp collectors – you name it there are collectors by the hundreds and thousands. You can also find Coca-Cola collectors. Yes! Collectors of Coke items would probably go with their well-known slogans: “Coke is it” or even “Things go better with Coca-Cola.” Collecting pieces of history from the world’s best-known brands caught on with the public during the nostalgic craze of the ‘70s. Today, the Club has more than 5000 members all over the world.
Coca-Cola – the soft drink that was invented by chemist towards the end of the last century definitely understood the value of advertising right from the word – GO! It is also the source of the world’s most popular collectibles – Coca Cola items. So, it isn’t surprising that one will find that the famous logo has appeared on glasses, food trays, thermometers, clocks apart from printed advertisements.
There are thousand of Coke collectors in the world. All early advertising pieces are highly collectible. Bottled Coke first appeared in 1899, and since then the bottle has been through 8 variations. Al these samples from the turn of the century are rare and highly prized.
Coca-Cola collectors divide themselves into smaller groups. There are some who specialize in one or two items like bottles or cans. Some collectors focus on group items, while others collect a little of everything. Collecting Coca-Cola is just a small slice of it. There are collections which are of museum quality, for instance like an original artwork which is a one-of-a-kind piece.
The earliest promotional items are the hardest to find. One only knows of a handful of samples of the 1890s calendar for example. Anything from that decade is considered rare and priceless on the open market with some of the older items fetching a cool $20,000 onwards depending on the condition. Competition for the 19th century items are intense with toy trucks that sold for just 49 cents in the 1930’s are worth a thousand dollars today.
