Every girl’s best friend is said to be her doll. It could
be the world renowned Barbie doll or the local Indian doll, or the
Chinese or then the African one. Basically the best gift you can give
your growing up daughter, niece or granddaughter is a doll. In some
schools in India the doll is used as a prop to educate
children. While it is immensely popular amongst children, there are some
adults who amass collectible dolls. People usually pick up these toys when they travel to various countries. The life-like objects that could be made of plastic, ceramic or glass speak volumes about the physical features of the people of a particular country. For instance, if you want to explain what a Chinese or Japanese person looks like, then the best thing to do is to present the child a native doll. Many countries manufacture collectible dolls wearing their national garment. The features sculpted are like the real inhabitants of that place. The popular Indian doll has been the one wearing a sari, placed on a stand with movable limbs; basically the dancing one. Amongst the other collectible dolls are the ones operated on battery. These can speak and walk and is a fascination amongst children. For the serious collectors there are the ancient ones that have survived the ravages of time.
