As a parent you are solely responsible for guiding your child towards various habits that might be the building blocks for your child’s character. Reading is one habit, which when inculcated from childhood, might prove a long time friend and companion to your child. Of course some children pick up this habit on their own out of personal interest as they grow up, but the parental influence can only help and aid to boost this interest.

Considering the importance of inculcating this habit, it might be a good idea to stock the house with interesting children’s books as this provides them with an added incentive to reach out for the book and read it. Some of the must-have children’s books have become collectibles for this category over a period of time.

Here are some tips on how to go about finding these collectible children’s books for your child:

1.      Check in the children's section of the book shop and see if there is a separate section of books for the "Beginning Readers." Many book shops nowadays have several sets of shelves set aside for beginning readers.

2.      If you are going to use an online bookstore, you can easily do a search to find out what the store has in the beginning reader category.

3.      There are also a large number of short chapter books available for young readers.

4.      Beginning readers need books with a controlled vocabulary, books that were specifically developed for children to read to themselves.

5.      Many books that are suitable for listening to have too difficult a vocabulary for independent reading.

6.      Take the time to review the selection of available books so that you can choose a book that suits both your child's interests and reading level.

 

And as you are going to try and choose a set of collectible children’s books to stock in your house do check the following things especially carefully:

·         The size of the type face and the weight of the paper

·         The clarity of the definitions for the age level targeted

·         The type and amount of additional reference and word usage

·         History information provided

·         The overall organization of the book

·         The illustrations

·         Last but not the least the suitability of the book to the maturity level of your child.
