machine quilting

For some, machine quilting is the art of expressing themselves while for some it is the faster way of getting over with one job and beginning the other. Machine quilting offers stitch outlining that can be totally invisible or the use of a number of threads that can make a stunning piece of work.

Basically machine quilting falls into two categories machine guided or free motion. For straight lines and slightly curved lines machine quilting is used. While for starry patterns and other dramatic patterns free motion quilting is put into practice. But hey quilting has absolutely no rules. You can use the style and type you desire. As some quilters even use the free motion style for straight lines and machine quilting is used to create more line variations and patterns. With a few alterations any machine can be used for machine quilting. Not all but at least some patterns can be churned out of an ordinary machine.

Once you take to quilting and overcome a king size quilt you may fancy those big 12 foot machines. They are certainly fun to work with and give you enormous precision and style. But if you are a beginner then begin with straight lines or grid patterns. But if you are adept to machine quilting then go on and innovate. You can use the echo quilting technique or stippling style too.

Out of the current styles feathering technique delivers the best results. However as it is one of the ancient styles it is very difficult to master. But with a little practice you can certainly garner the technique. It is very difficult to achieve this style via a machine. But practice can make it possible.

While quilting is being taken up as a serious hobby, many cottage industries have been initiated and are doing well. As quilting is gaining momentum-quilting machines too are being acknowledged. Even technology savvy machines with a computer attached are now available.
