  A hobby like quilting can take off to a business profession with a little dedication and your passion for quilting. From the manual style you can go on to quilting with sewing machines so that your output increases and your time is saved.

Many Indian women are engrossed with their quilting sewing machines as a means of income by working from home. What is machine quilting you may ask? It is the process of putting together the pieces of quilt with a machine instead of the traditional manual hand stitched method. The variety of quilts from quilting sewing machine can range from quilting with an invisible stitch to a series of coloured threads & stitches resulting to a stunning piece of art.

You can start your venture of quilting with any sewing machine. However some may require alterations to adapt to the thickness of the quilt. You have to also check the size of gap between the motor machine and the needle. A layer opening is preferable as it can travel along the layer size of the quilt effectively. In the case of a small machine you may have to stitch in sections then join it finally.

Also a small motor of a sewing machine indicates that you have to pause from time to time to allow the machine to cool off.

Needles are the vital equipment for quilting sewing machine. It is necessary to start with a new needle on a new project. Excessive use of a needle will progressively show signs of popping sounds, poor stitches etc. Signaling you to change the needle. Several needles may be required when you take up a larger quilting project. For different threads different needles are required. For a quilting sewing machine sharper needles are the requirements so that they can penetrate deeper.

Threads of a variety are available for a quilting sewing machine. The monofilament nylon thread popularly known, as the invisible thread is more preferred. For baby quilts 100% cotton threads are preferred. Also keep in mind that threads designed for hand quilting should not be used for machine quilting.
