Kids are more grown up than babies
and they should definitely have a say in their bedroom. Remember, they play
games, listen to music, or just lie down doing nothing. They also want their
privacy.
Talk to them about colors, fabrics and themes and let them air
their views. Wallpaper and paint really add color to the room and if you do
use paint, allow for a glossy finish. Have your child select a theme for
himself. |
If you use wallpaper, you could have aquariums, airplanes, or
jungle motifs. Play safe with the window draperies. Use shades or blinds and
if your kid wants curtains keep them short.
What would be ideal is to identify different areas for different activities.
The play area could have a table with shelves and drawers to house the
games. A few chairs around would make it a work spot cum play area. The
light reading area could have a couple of soft sofas into which they can
sink into and read. A small bookcase to stock their favorite books would
hopefully prevent the books from being strewn around the room. A music
system with place for CDs, cassettes could go into the entertainment area.
This 3 in 1 or 4 in 1 system works pretty well.

Storage should be a top priority. Kids being kids, no amount of space will
really be enough. Drawers are not the best way to store. You never know what
there is inside. Shelves are better; in fact closets that contain shelves
and racks could be ideal. Sort out toys, clothes and other junk that kids
manage to accumulate and arrange them on the shelves. This way both they and
you have an idea as to what there is in the closet. A platform type bed with
under storage facilities could be a still better option. |
Doing homework and studying for tests are an inevitable part of a child’s
life. So do what you can to make the task seem less dreary. Table lamps for
doing homework and reading and soft, soothing light for those moments when
even they want peace and quiet are absolutely essential. Do not forget the
night-light.
If you believe in Feng Shui, here are some tips. As the bedroom is a place
where kids relax, the atmosphere should be one to create positive energy.
Place all games, computers behind screens and choose from green, blue and
beige for the walls. Hide toys under the bed in the storage area and ensure
that there is no clutter. See that the windows open out on to a pleasant
sight and have soft music played in the room in the night.
Always remember, decorating a bedroom with your kid means a lot to him and
to you as well.
