POEMS FOR KIDS

The fact is that children learn best through entertainment. It has been proven time and again that if they are put into a boring environment and taught lessons, they end up forgetting it as soon as they learn it. But, changing the environment makes a world of a difference.
So while classes are fashioned to stretch from 30 minutes to forty minutes, the fact is that a child will absorb all that he wishes too, or feels alerted towards, spanning not more than ten minutes, beyond which he or she loses interest. However, to counter this most teachers attempt to teach lessons in poetic form. This does not imply bringing rhyme and verse, but cutting verbose lessons into shorter sentences, highlighting key facts that need to be memorized.
Even moral story tales can be retold in the form of a poem. This helps the child retain what he or she is being taught. Long and winding sentences are boring and after a time you will notice your child is looking the other way, not in the least bothered about anything you maybe saying. But, using the tool of poetry the child will be learning it thoroughly. Have you ever thought how much every individual has actually learnt from the poems that have been penned for kids. Yes, what may seem like nonsense nursery rhymes have actually taught one and all fundamentals – be it the shape and size of the elephant, the counting to ten, the letters from A to Z, the twinkling stars, the need to sleep, the need to be in doors while its raining… All have been learnt through precious poems.
The art of creating poetry
for children is not just limited to writers, but is something that can be
penned and sung by anyone involved in rearing children. It is about putting
things together, ideally to a subtle tune.
