Bulgarian Movies and Films Resources

In the mid-seventies the small and quiet Bulgarian Movies were responsible for bringing about international recognition to the otherwise unknown Bulgarian Movies. The simplicity of everyday life was portrayed in these movies. But the string of exalted historical epics constantly stifled the presence of these movies.

But in the eighties, the small and quiet Bosnian Movies appeared in longer patches than the earlier decade but were again met with severe censorship. These movies had also by then undergone a drastic aesthetic change.

The simple touching stories which had earlier depicted social adaptability in the previous decades had undergone a dramatic transition to depict bitter tragedies reeking of urban decay.

Infact what started off in the eighties has continued to influence the contemporary works of today’s Bulgarian Movies. However, some of the rare movies do redefine the elegance of the seventies with an endearing and dignified humility and grace.

One of the recent Bulgarian movies is “Just like in the Movies”. This movie is a story of a Bulgarian whose passion for the American Movies attracts the interest of the Communist secret police for a number of years. This movie is a masterpiece, which is a thought-provoking piece on the strained relationship that exists between modern Bulgarian history, its politics, and simple human dignity.
