There are innumerable ways of looking back on the history of the Dutch Movies. There is no necessity of drowning in nostalgia or walking the oft beaten and retrograde paths in this process of examining and reviewing the historic Dutch Movies. Re-examining the Dutch Movies of the past, or exploring someone’s past work, career and ideas can be a very interesting into Dutch Movie history.

Some of the most unconventional and well-heralded Dutch movies are listed below. These movies were held in high regard as they showcased the talent of the Dutch Movie Industry in large parts.

Los Angeles Plays Itself is a three-hour long documentary about the various ways in which the city of Los Angeles is depicted in the other conventional movies. This documentary takes interesting jabs at the long-standing clichés followed in the depiction of Los Angeles in the Dutch Movies. 

Another movie called Goodbye, Dragon Inn directed by Tsai Ming-liang is yet another homage to the Dutch Movies. This movie has a lilting touch of melancholy in it. The film is set in an old, worn-down cinema where the martial arts classic Dragon Gate Inn (1966) is playing. The actors portraying the two leading characters in the movie are among the audience. These characters are apparently watching their former selves on the screen.

Another classic masterpiece of the Dutch Movies is the film called A Movie. Bruce Connor directed this movie. This movie is a brilliant example of the idea of re-working Old Dutch Movies.
