English movies & films resources

The English Movie industry began in almost the same way as most of the other countries in Europe and American began. In the year 1913, there was a great infiltration of American movies and American actors into England. This trend spread so wide that Dr Ralph Jupp's - a London Film Company began making films in the UK using American actors and technicians.

Some of the problems with the English movie industry were that did could not keep up the pace with the advancements in technology that most of the foreign filmmakers seemed to be making. As a result the English Movie industry was becoming technically in comparison to its counterparts in Europe and America.

The English Movies also remained largely oriented towards the culture of the theatre. The industry was infest with the trend of screening a play in the exact same manner as it had been performed on stage. Many of the English Movies even ended up using the same actors and sets that were portrayed in the play.

The First World War caused even more problems for the English Movie Industry. The audiences in Britain seemed to want American films. Infact the American Movies won so much acclaim that by 1918, there was hardly any money left for production of English Movies. Inspite of the private sponsorships infused into the English Movie Industry, the decline continued. Finally in 1924 production of English Movies ceased completely.

But then, luckily owing to the efforts taken by some dedicated filmmakers and actors, the activities of the English Movie Industry were revived by 1927. This was still an uphill battle. In 1927 the Cinematographers were brought into the Trade Bill. This move was primarily designed to ensure there was a guaranteed home market for English Movies.
