This much renowned Hawaiian Movie featured the eponymous surfer chick and her much acclaimed boyfriend, Moondoggie. Surprisingly Hawaii's movie legacy also happens to include some of Hollywood's biggest actors and directors. These artistes have inspite of all their fame had to end up playing second fiddle the island and beauty of Hawaii.

There are a great many number of ways in which the visitors to the Islands can get involved and immersed into the fun of the Hawaiian movies on the Islands. Some of the best ways to get involved with the movie fun are famous film festivals held in the island.

The film festivals held regularly include The Maui Film Festival at Wailea, The Hawaii International Film Festival. The Film tours and programs help the visitors to the island link the Hawaiian filmmaking to Hawaii's indigenous culture.

Moviemaking in Hawaii began even before the Hawaiian Islands were part of the United States. Inspite of the difficulty of travelling to the Islands, a number of silent films were made in Hawaii. Moviemaking is still thriving in Hawaii. In fact last year, the Hawaiian movie production companies spent approximately $125 million making movies in the Islands.
