The two most outstanding elements of the Kannada Movies are the reforms and the searing elements of truth interspersed with them. Many of the filmmakers fo the Kannada Movie Industry were responsible for making many powerful Kannada Movies that demanded the viewer’s compassion and soul-searching.

Traditions and culture had a huge influence on the nature of the Kannada Movies. So much so, that the Navya literary tradition of the Kannada language had a major impact on the Kannada Movies. Some of the major and highlighted aspects of the Navya tradition include the opposition to Brahmanical control and rituals.

This tradition of opposing the Brahmanical controls and rituals had originated with Gopalakrishna Adiga's volumes of poetry. Gopalakrishna’s poems are regarded as revolutionary as these triggered off the origin of a tradition, which featured extensively also on the big screen of the Kannada Movies.

These famous poems which were responsible for a whole new tradition were called “Nadedu Banda Dari” and “Bhumigita”. In fact Gopalakrishna acknowledged his debt to Kafka, Freud, Camus and Sartre for being the inspiration behind his work.
