Russian Movies have often been by the division of the Soviet-era and post-Soviet-era movies. But most Russian movies reveal figures and an universal view which speaks greatly about the motherland by depicting the landscapes in Russian beautifully and ingrained in ideology. Russian Movies are also greatly inspired and penetrated by art, literature, and theatre. The galvanization by music in Russian Movies is quite a lot.

Russian Movies have always been regarded by its major practitioners as an art form .It has been a continuation of the cultural traditions of nineteenth-century literature and art.Russian Movies had become cut off from mainstream discourse mainly during the leadership of Stalin. But the goals that movies should educate rather than entertain emerged after the Revolution in the Russian Movie scene.

Genres of comedy most found in the Russian movies include satire, slapstick, class antagonism, and combat humor. Some of the comedies of the Golden Age were made often at the expense of the West. During the 1920s some of the comedies that were made were dominated by Party ideologies. These ideologies curiously rejected any autonomy or discretion granted to the director of the movie. One of the important challenges that were faced by the Russian comedy is that it was considered to be lowbrow entertainment. The Russian comedy movies were largely an attempt to reassure all that they lived in a secure and stable society. The movies also tried to reassure the people that the problems faced by capitalist societies were largely irrelevant for the Russians. But by the 1970s and 1980s the Russian comedies were largely focused on foreign influences and sexual identities. Russian comedies that have been made since the end of the Soviet Union in 1991 contain black humor or threatening undertones, focusing on pleasures of life.

There exists a stark contrast in the feminine symbol of purity found in early Russian films to the elevation of women and eventual self-abasement of men in later Russian films. By the 1920s not all-female characters in film were passive and domestic as stereotyped in Russian literature. In the Golden Age, Russian Movies portrayed emancipated women. These women were consciously identified with the causes of social progress and/or political struggle. The main woman in these films was many a time considered to be a victim of patriarchal systems. It was only in the 1930s and 1940s that women were depicted with the dual roles of being independent and feisty as well as committed to their husbands and families.

From the period of Stagnation till the end of the Soviet Union, the female characters portrayed in the Russian Movies could be vulnerable, involved in dead-end relationships or marriages, divorced, or members of dysfunctional families. The Post-Soviet era in the Russian Movies from the 1990s to present portrays the women characters as focused women dealing with motherhood, being in the Mafia, struggling for physical survival, or simply coming to the understanding that there are no flawlessly perfect men.
