The two men who were responsible for the initial foray of Swedish Movies are Victor S. and Mauritz Stiller. Without any disputes, the most universally venerated aspect of the Swedish culture is its movies. Some of the greatest names in the Movie Industry the world over are Ingmar Bergman, Greta Garbo, Max von Sydow, Liv Ullman, Anita Ekberg, and Ingrid Bergman. These prominent people are all Swedes.

Two of the initial Swedish Movies which were filmed in 1911 were based on August Strindberg´s dramas “Miss Julie” and “The Father”. Seven years later, “The People of Hemsö” was filmed, and in 1921, Körkarlen followed it, which was originally a novel by Selma Lagerlof. Korkalen is considered to be a masterpiece in the Swedish Movies and it started a golden era for the Swedish Movies. This golden era came to an end when a lot of directors and actors chose to move to Hollywood.

Some of the other prominent Swedish directors are Lasse Hallström, Jan Troell and Bo Widerberg. All of these directors have won international acclaim. Among the famous and acclaimed Swedish actors are the names like Max von Sydow, Liv Ullman, Anita Ekberg and Ingrid Bergman.

The annual Gothenburg Film Festival provides a great opportunity to the directors, actors and other movie artists to meet, listen to lectures and, of course, watch Swedish movies and movies of some other countries too.
