Over the last decade and a half, Finnish music has attained international recognition. The unique selling point of Finnish music lies in its originality. Music has been an important ingredient in the life of people living in Finland.

It is a national heritage for them. The national epic for Finland, the Kalevala (1835) formed the basis of the Finnish culture that included music as well.

Finnish music started to develop in the early 70s when music composers and opera writers formed the basis of modernism in the field of music.

The Finnish composers and artists were given state grants so that music as a field could be encouraged and artists get a reasonable livelihood. There are special music schools and classes in Finland that are dedicated to teach music to the younger generation. Today, Finland is considered a unique land of music with a significant number of composers and singers.

Some of the musical festivals conducted are the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, the Helsinki Festival, Musica nova Helsinki etc. Some of the current local favorites musical groups are Zen Café, CMX and YUP and the solo artist Maija Vilkkumaa. Using the most recent technology, Finland has been able to combine various music genres and produce some great music over the years.
