 Oldest form of folk music in Norway is slattemusikk which is usually accompanied by instruments like, Hardanger fiddle, ordinary fiddle, Jew’s harp and langeleik. Norweign folk songs have attractive tonal quality, rhythmic patterns and melodic structure.

Popular genres include, pop, rock, hip-hop, metal, R&B and electronica. Famous singers and vands are; Royksopp, Serena Maneesh, Madrugada, Turbonegro, Sissel, Annie, and Jaga Jazzist. There are several other well liked active bands and record companies who are at the forefront of Norwegian popular music.

Rock songs scenario in Norway was never this active and lively. Credit goes to bands like, Serena Maneesh, Kaizers Orchestra, Madrugada, Amulet, Big Bang, Motorpsycho, Animal Alpha and JR Ewing who helped in not only popularizing rock in the country but in abroad as well through their numerous concerts.

Apart from heavy sound rock, Norway also has plenty of singers and bands who have managed to make their mark through their quite sound and expressive power. Such names are; St. Thomas, Thomas Dybdahl and Ane Brun, Minor Majority, Salvatore, Washington, and The White Birch.

The electronica scene in Norway is brightened by Xploding Plastix, Jaga Jazzist, Lindstrom and Prins Thomas, Datarock, Ralph Myerz and The Jack Herren Band, Flunk, BermudaTriangle, Supersilent, Frost, Sternklang and Bjorn Torske.
