 Telugu music belongs to south Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Like its siblings Kannada and Malayalam songs, Telugu songs also possess rich history. Ancient form of Telugu music was ‘Kalapam’ which was basically peformed through a string of songs. Another popular concept was ‘Burrakatha’, also considered as link between storytelling and music.

It was a traditional event performed for three consecutive days and involved three performers indulging in narrating, singing and acting stories taken form mythological characters or politics.Telugu film songs owe a lot to A R Rehman. He single handedly changed the music scenario by giving chances to many new singers who gradually managed to make their mark in industry and peoples’ hearts as well. Famous Telugu singers include the likes of Mano, SPB, Kousalya, Shreya Ghosa, Rajesh, Karthik, SP Charan, Tippu, Malavika, Mahalaxmi, Sunitha, Usha, Sumangali, KK, Mallikharjun, Chitra, Kalpana, Ganga, and Nithya etc. Many popular Hindi singers also sing for Telugu film industry.

Renowned music composers are; Saluri Rajeswara Rao, A. R. Rahman, Chakri, Raghavulu, Ilaiyaraaja, Koti, M. M. Keeravani, SP Kodandapani, Mani Sharma, Devi Sri Prasad, Pendyala, K. V. Mahadevan, Chakravarthy, RP Patnaik and Vidyasagar. Popular Telugu tracks are, Salaame, Akh Ladiye, Har Manzar, Kadalenum, Thiruvadi Charanam, Naan Engae, Paruvame, Ukku Ukku, Kanmaniyae Kadhal Enbathu, Arulvaayae, Vedha, Om Arunachaleswaraya Namaha etc.
