Most people would think that Christian poetry largely deals with poems
written with a religious base. Well, there are numerous Christian poets
who pen down poems that preach the values and underlying aspects of the
religion. Whiles others pen volumes glorifying Jesus Christ,
acknowledging the sacrifice he made for humankind. There are some poems that render tales from the bible in poetic form, making for pleasure reading. Also making these biblical instances quotable, as it is easier to quote lines from poetry than it is to memorize the long lines and sentences of prose. In fact according to studies in the field of education, children retain better what they learn in poetic form, than otherwise. Most teachers attempt to put inspirational Christian poetry to tune, so as to teach children various morals and values of life. It has been found that the best way of teaching concepts and principles to children is either in the story-telling format, or then by reciting poems, and if possible putting them to a singsong tune. People who have gone through very trying times in life have in fact used Christian poetry as means to motivate them out of their problems. There are so many people who buy volumes of poetry books and on a daily basis read a couple of them. In fact they almost always claim that they feel that the poet has written specially for them. These poems are also recited during the Church Service, as well as are like a daily ritual in most Christian households – part of the routine to read at least one poem from a Christian poem anthology. Christian poems are also life-enriching and entertaining. Sometimes people gather together just to recite, or read out their favorite poems and then discuss their views. They find this to be an educating past-time, as it is better than the unnecessary gossip sessions discussing other people’s lives, almost always in the negative. Apart from the positive poems, there are even those that talk against Christianity and its tenets. This kind of poetry has found numerous critics, yet it is largely read with the intention of understanding the other side of people’s thoughts. Most readers alleviate the negative aspects portrayed by these poets, by appreciating the creative genius of their words. ~ author M. Hemdev.
