Endometriosis is what nearly 90 million women world-wide are plagued with month after month.  If a woman has pelvic pain, it is assumed that she suffers from this most common disease on the face of the earth.

Endometriosis occurs when tissue like the ones on the uterus is found outside it in either the abdomen, ovaries, lining of the pelvic cavity and areas around it.  Other areas include – the bladder, bowels and its surrounding areas.  It is rarely found in the lung, arm, thigh and other such locations.

There are various theories that suggest the cause of endometriosis.  One such theory suggests that the endometrial tissue is distributed to other parts of the body either through the blood or lymph systems. As this tissue breaks down and sheds blood it has no way of leaving the body thus resulting in internal bleeding, inflammation which causes pain among other things.

The symptoms of Endometriosis have been found to be pain before or during periods, fatigue, painful urination and bowel movement during periods, diarrhea, constipation and nausea.

A surgical procedure known as laparoscopy is able to identify the location, size and extent of the tissue growth.  It also aids doctors and patients to identify their choice of treatment.
