Art is regarded as an in born talent; and for this reason it is often said that everybody can hold a paintbrush but only a few can use it. Creativity is something that comes from within and formal training only helps you to organize the creative flow of thoughts onto canvas. While some artists learn from qualified teachers, there are others who train themselves at home.

Oil paints or charcoal are usually used for canvas paintings. The former is the age-old medium, while the latter came prominence as a major art form since the last century. Apart from that artists prefer to classify themselves according to the kind of paintings they do on canvas. They may specialize in landscaping, seascape, portraits, modern art, etc. no matter what they paint, for them it is a matter of artistically bringing what they see and imagine into a form that can be enjoyed by others.
