carpet cleaning

Ok, so you got that dream carpet to beautify your precious exteriors. You hosted a nice poolside party for close friends with an elaborate buffet of lots of Mexican sauces and syrups. Someone just decided to make a call and merrily hopped up the porch holding a leaking dessert and to your dismay, left a bread-crumb trail on our new carpet! You immediately forget your Hosting etiquettes, shoo everyone aside and begin the arduous task of getting the stains off. Nightmarish.

But maintaining carpets – indoor or outdoor - is not a tedious task, if the correct tips and ticks are known. The simplest way is to just sweep or vacuum it or for a detailed cleaning, scrub it with a cleaner and wash off using a garden hose.

The key is to understand the difference between ‘soiling’ and ‘staining’ a carpet. Improper treatment of a ‘soil’ can lead to the carpet being stained, thus it is crucial to treat the soiling immediately and appropriately.  E.g. the stain should never be rubbed since rubbing can break down the fibers that spread the stain. Instead just blot the soil.  When the carpet soils are cleaned with a detergent solution and not cleaned with enough water, the stickiness remains and gets converted into a stain. Thus it is necessary to rinse well with water and blot dry. Certain carpets are known to be stain resistant that reduce the rate of soiling but all carpets do require regular looking after. Indian Dry cleaning companies have introduced breakthrough technologies that help easy stain removal.

Here are some tips for different types of cleaning treatments

·Vacuuming the carpet at least twice a week, especially in high footfall parts is a must. Soil particles that settle down in deeper parts of the carpet are removed immediately. Experts recommend using a rotating brush of a good vacuum cleaner (certified by the carpet and Rug Institute) with the brush bar

·  In spite of being mildew resistant, mold can still frown on carpets you can just wash it off using water and chlorine bleach wash the carpet with chlorine bleach and water

·  Companies advise to steer away from liquid carpet shampoos because if not rinsed well, the carpet will become grimy due to the sticky substances. Instead, Hot water cleaning, more commonly known as steam cleaning is the most preferred treatment for carpet cleaning. Alternatively, dry cleaning is also an option. Using spot removers manufactured by a good company can do a good job for carpet cleaning too.

· Food stains can be cleaned off by spraying shaving cream after it settles in and rinsed using water and vinegar solution. Brake cleaner, applied on a cloth (don’t use directly as it might harm the fibers) and dabbed on the stain is similar to a dry carpet cleaning treatment

·  Got Spilled gum on the carpet ? Freeze it with ice cubes and chip off with a blunt knife. Similar treatment works for wax too.

So next time you host a gig, just open your ‘carpet Cleaning’ diary in handy and use the useful tips aforementioned. Forget the stain worries and enjoy the party!
