African prints are pure cotton fabrics and are hard-wearing. In Africa they are well known as ‘KITANGE’. It is worn by African men and women. After all, they are produced for a market where they may have to withstand frequent, vigorous hand-washing over rocks in a local stream. African wax prints never have any problems with colours bleeding, but as a precaution with some colours like blue/green it is preferable to wash new fabric separately before use. The fabrics will soften after their first wash.

African Printed fabrics are among the most colourful and dynamic in the world. They represent various culture and tradition of the local African people. The designs are considered ideal for patchwork and quilting. They can make a vibrant and colourful border, sash or back to a quilt. The designs mainly comprises pictures of animals, birds, flowers, etc.

The piece length is 6 or 12 yards of each piece. They come in various qualities from medium to heavy and in size 44” (112 cms). These fabrics are mainly exported to African countries and are consumed locally. The prints are dark and colourful. The speciality of this fabric is that the impressions of the deigns are same on the back of the fabric. African printed fabrics are also exported from India to Africa.
