ceramic vases

One of the oldest decorative pieces that has stood on the shelves of the various rooms of a house are the ceramic vases. These vases are beautifully sculptured out of a mixture of cement and other material, baked and handcrafted into a variety of designs. Their sizes vary from the miniatures to the huge ones that reach halfway towards the ceilings.

The main use of a vase is to place flowers into it. Some people fill their vases with natural flowers such as roses, chrysanthemums, tulips, carnations, etc. You could also place ferns and artificial flowers into your vase. In India a lot of ladies make flowers out of stockings, beads, wax, glass, satin and other material, placing them in vases to add to the beauty of their homes.

Ceramic vases are available in various shapes and sizes. Some have a glazed finish, while others have the mat finish. These vases are sold in all colors, in both the finishes. Some have sculptures of birds, a figurine of a woman, animals, flowers, animals, etc., which are used as showpieces rather than for holding flowers.

Though it is a showpiece kept in homes and offices, it is considered a personal and thoughtful gift. It is in fact a nice housewarming gift that you could give someone along with a bunch of flowers. After all the flowers have a limited life, but the vase will remain on the shelf as a reminder of your thoughtfulness.

Where should one ideally place the ceramic vase? Well, here are a few tips.

-You could place a medium sized vase in the center of your dining table. Adding fresh flowers into this vase everyday adds to the harmony and joy of the togetherness enjoyed at the dining table
-Smaller vases could be placed on the coffee tables and on the shelf where other showpieces are kept
- You could place a designer vase made of ceramic on your dressing table
- Two small vases in the shape of urns could be kept in the temple or altar of your home
-A huge vase packed with artificial flowers and ferns could be kept in one corner of the drawing room, close to the window

When you purchase vases for your home, it should go with the décor of your house. For instance, if the theme of your home is Indian, then vases with Chinese painted designs or European sculptures would be a misfit. And in case you do not find the ideal Indian design then you could purchase a plain vase made from ceramic and adorn it the way you like. You could paint an ethnic design; stick some traditionally printed material with beads and threads.
