Staying in a cottage ?
That is no reason as to why you should deprive yourself of the comforts of
life - the small but absolutely necessary bits and pieces that make living a
pleasure. That's right - furniture. Imagine a place without chairs and cots
and bookcases. It is enough to drive one insane. Wait a minute. Do not let
your imagination run riot. The furniture has got to be informal, practical
and comfortable. How does one go about that ?
Living room furniture is a must. The most important things are those
Comfortable sofas into which you can sink into after a tiring day and
indulge in its luxurious softness. There must be armchairs that are wide and
deep and footstools by the side to rest those weary feet. Those ubiquitous
coffee tables that lend ambience should be strewn about. They are handy
things to have around. Cottage style tables, which have shelves, should be
placed conveniently next to the sofa. They could hold magazines, a reading
lamp and other miscellaneous things, which never seem to be readily
available. A cottage style stand could serve as an entertainment stand.
With the TV housed on top, the bottom shelves could hold a VCR / DVD player
with videos or CDs. The room is not complete without a bookcase. An under
window bookcase can save space and also hold large books and photo albums.
Mementos and trophies can be displayed to perfection. Such a stand should be
present in the kitchen and in the bedroom. In the kitchen it could serve as
a holder for cookbooks and small items while in the bedroom it could be
converted into a nightstand on which the reading lamp and phone will sit.
Corner Bath cabinets or under window bath cabinets are absolutely essential
in the bathroom. Shelves to hold linen, towels and toiletries and closed
cabinets to keep medicines, shampoos and perfumes are absolutely essential.
These are things that you just cannot do without. Even the smallest bathroom
can cater to all this. One last thing in the bathroom - a cottage mirror
should form part of the bath cabinet or be a separate feature.
Apart from the beds and nightstands in the bedroom, a roomy cottage style
desk in the corner should accommodate a PC, a keyboard and a mouse while the
drawers provide space for CDs and stationery. An adjustable chair with
castors would really complete the picture. Bunk beds for children and toy
chests could prove to be real lifesavers. Living in such a cottage far away
from the madding crowds could be sheer bliss.
