Basically, Crystal is a form of glass containing Lead Oxide as part of its chemical composition. This chemical is used to increase the density of glass, thereby increasing its refractive properties. Full Lead Crystal containing 30% Lead Oxide, which is the maximum used in the industry are used in dressing Chandeliers. In fact, chandeliers made from such a high quality crystals is much more expensive than the normal chandeliers.

There has been much progress made since the initial days of crystal cutting and polishing. Earlier, because the process was mainly manual in nature, the end product had visible scratches and imperfect surfaces. With technological advancements, the machines at the hands of the craftsmen, has reduced the possibilities of Lead Crystal imperfections to a negligible minimum.

Lead crystal chandeliers is popular in Indian hotels and there are many wealthy Indians families who like to decorate their homes with this expensive light-hanging-from-the ceiling. These chandeliers have to be taken care of with utmost care. And while polishing the chandelier it should be done with a soft cloth preferably dipped in lukewarm water.
