When one speaks of chandeliers that were made in the eras gone by, the
first thing that comes to mind is a simple, wooden frame with
candleholders. Then came the age of the grand chandeliers that were hung
up in the royal homes, along with the simpler rustic ones. These
chandeliers were either lit with candles, with gas or kerosene. Then
came in the discovery of electricity and with it Modern Chandeliers. A trendy Modern Chandelier is a shift from the antique, grand, larger than life chandeliers. Before going ahead to describe the new age or contemporary chandeliers, it is important to understand that a chandelier is different from a table-lamp; the difference being that the former is hung from the ceiling and the latter is placed on a table or maybe on the ground. The chandeliers of the time gone by have a common feature the world over – being the gigantic sizes. This is especially the ones that were hung in palaces and the homes of the royalties. These were mainly made from glass of crystal. Modern Chandeliers are far more experimental in design, pattern and size. The present day Chandeliers hung in Indian homes range from the traditional designs to the western ones. These chandeliers can also be custom-made according to requirements. Apart form the variety of designs, patterns and sizes, present day Indian chandeliers are available in a price range from the easily affordable to the most expensive. However, irrespective of the budget every householder can afford to do up every room of their home with a beautiful chandelier, keeping in mind the décor and personal choice.
