painting paneling

If you have decided to do some work on painting paneling in your house then it is very necessary to ensure that you start out with a clean surface. It would be a good idea to start with a good washing to the existing paneling on your walls by using a sponge mop or any other good degreasing cleaner. A thorough rinsing with clean water can follow this process. This preliminary work of giving a rigorous cleansing to the paneling will save you a lot of grief in the process of painting paneling.

Based on the assumption that your paneling has grooves, you will have to start with the process of filling them in order to get rid of them. And if your paneling does not have any grooves, or if you simply decide to paint the paneling and leaving the grooves intact showing then you would probably want to skip this process and move over to the priming section.

Here is a brief description of the process of filling the grooves. For filling the grooves you will need:
-  A pail of ready mixed joint compound,
-  A mud pan
-  A 6 inch spackle knife,
-  80 grit sandpaper
-  A sanding pole
The next step would require you to conduct priming to the paneling. Priming is a must if you are going to carry out the process of painting paneling. This is because the stains in the paneling will bleed through the topcoat of the paint.
Once the priming for the paneling is complete you can simply apply the paint onto the paneling to add the finish. After the painting is done, the final polish with a nice satin would look good on painted paneling.
