In simple terms, a rustic chandelier implies something that fits into
the traditional culture of the place. For instance, when we talk of
rustic India we mean the rural, old India that still
exists. It implies the villages. Rustic signifies the purity of the
place, untouched by urban blemishes, so to speak. Rustic is not only
ancient India, but also any countryside small town or village across the
world. In fact no matter how modern we maybe, and no matter from which
part of the world we may come from, our roots are tightly held by our
traditions, which exist in the rural regions. Rustic culture imbibes the
food, clothing and lifestyle. So, this would also include a Rustic
Chandelier.
The rustic Chandeliers of India are of two types; one is the princely ones that were used in the royal Indian families and the other being the simple ones hung in every household. The former were made of rich materials such as glass or crystal and adorned with precious stones. The rest were basically lantern either made of cane or other metals depending on affordability. Though we live in urban cities, when decorate our homes most of us prefer the rural look. This would be low seating arrangements, preferably mattresses, wall paintings that would signify Indian culture, a Chandelier that adds to the rural romanticism. One need not travel to the villages to pick a traditional ceiling lamp, as it is available at various stores across urban cities and can be imported according to request. ~ author Karishma Bajaj.
