Acrylic is the material that is usually preferred for painting as it
dries faster and quite close to the actual colour. Acrylic is a water
based paint which means you can add water to it. But on drying it
results to a water resistant art. Thus shielding your painting against
water and other liquids. As against oil paints that take a few hours to a few weeks to dry, acrylic paints dry in a matter of minutes. Moreover acrylic paints do not come off with turpentine, mineral spirits, ammonia, or alcohol. Simply stating its long lasting quality. But an impeding drawback are the cracks that are generated with consumption of time. In comparison, oil paints last longer and perish very very slowly. For beginners acrylic painting is a great way to start. As they are easy to handle and give you the satisfactory result. You also get student colours that are less expensive and a great way to start. Choosing colours as a beginner can be quite complicated as there are too many colours to choose from. So stick to the basic primary colours or a few different hues. Over a period of time you will be able to distinguish your colour, style and the beautiful intricacies of acrylic paintings. However comparing an oil painting with an acrylic painting is not justified. As both have advantages and limitations unique to them. There is a lot scope for learners in India as institutions, private tuitions that offer courses on the same are also available.
