Baby teething fever

Baby teething fever :

Teething patterns and symptoms are different for each baby. While some begin the teething process early around four months, others have to wait till they are a year old. Teething by itself is a natural process and hence there is no way one can actually make the teeth appear faster.

One symptom that initially shows that the baby is teething is excessive drooling. This is also accompanied by cranky behavior. There is a general discomfort felt by the child as the gums swell and spread to show a white patch. Teething is a process and hence the child has to bear till the first teeth is out. Fever is generally a low grade one below 101 degree Fahrenheit and a general dose of paracetamol is more than enough.

Medication of any kind has to be done with the doctors prescription. Pediatrics normally allow the baby to go through the teething process without any medication. Most times the initially incisors cause fever and as the other sets start showing the child is already comfortable with the process. Fever can also be caused due to tummy infection as teething babies generally put all things in their mouth.

The pain & discomfort which results from baby teething is due to the pressure exerted on the tissue in the mouth, when the teeth erupt. Gently rubbing the gums with a chilled, wet wash-cloth may give the baby some relief.

Being feverish maybe a sign of teething, but not always so. Fever may also be a symptom of something else for which you may visit your doctor.

Teething has NOT been shown to cause a high-grade fever in babies. If your child develops fever MORE than 100 degrees, look for other signs of illness. Although fever may coincide with baby teething it is best to check with your doctor if your baby has a fever or diarrhea.
