Though there is no general rule as to when the baby would teeth, the preparation stage starts from four months onwards. In rare cases some kids do not teeth till their first birthday or uptil 15 months. The front teeth are the first to come and there is no order whether it will the top one or the lower set. The beginning is tough for kids as the gums harden, swell and the child loses interest in eating.

Try some ideas to bring the child in a mood to eat with rings, key chains that come as play toys. If the baby is excessively cranky then the doctor might prescribe a gel or some powder to lighten the irritation. Wakefulness will add to the problem of crankiness and hence it is better to take the doctors suggestion.

Gels or powders prescribed by the doctor are absolutely safe for the baby. A finger massage with the gel will actually soothe the child. Use a frozen spoon or dip in cold water with the powder over the swollen gum. Powders come in sachets which can be used directly and it is advisable to use a new pack each time. Relief for the teething child is better provided with harmless gels and powders.
