Overproduction of oil inside the body by the glands, and trapped bacteria are some of the factors, which need attention. Large hair follicles under the skin are filled with oil, dead skin and bacteria and when more oil enters the area, it swells. White cells rush to the area to combat the swelling and the area becomes inflamed. This is often referred to as the comedo. So acne skin care products would obviously have to reduce the excess oil and remove the dirt to prevent the comedo from growing in size. 
 
Most acne skin care products have a lot of side effects. They do effect a temporary cure as far as acne is concerned, but the consequences are perhaps not worth it. The drug ACCutane is able to cure even severe cases of acne in the course of 6-8 months in up to 85 percent of the people, who use it, but in a few cases there is remission and further treatment is required. The adverse effects are in some cases tragic, as vital organs like the liver, eyes, intestines could be affected. Sometimes long term use of the drug trigger psychiatric problems and is even known to have caused severe birth defects.

There are some homeopathic products, which are very popular in India. As the acne skin care product is made from herbs and plant extracts, they help in augmenting the body’s natural defenses. As the ingredients are present in very small concentrations, the body heals itself without any side effects. This has been very encouraging for the Indian market, but it is still to take off in a big way. Another advantage that this product has over the existing ones is its ability to cater to both male and female acne problems. As the hormonal composition of both male and female are different, treatment methods and product definitions also differ.

Tea tree oil, which by itself is an antiseptic, is very effective for acne-affected areas. Concealers to camouflage the areas, which have suffered damage, are also available. Essentially water-based products that match the skin type are ideal.  Sea Buckthorn berries, which are harvested in the mountains of Siberia are nutritious and vitamin rich fruits. The fruit extract is extremely beneficial for acne. It acts as an antioxidant, an analgesic and has natural healing properties. Products and treatments are fine by themselves, but these need to be supplemented by drinking plenty of water, eating fresh fruit and vegetables that hydrate the skin helping to reduce acne breakouts.
